ZP1846

Glucagon-like Peptide-2 (GLP-2) is a peptide growth factor that specifically targets and stimulates growth of the intestinal epithelium. In experimental models of small intestinal injury and disease, administration of GLP-2 remarkably enhanced the repair, regeneration and absorptive capacity of the small intestinal mucosa. These findings aroused significant interest for the potential therapeutic use of GLP-2 in the treatment of intestinal disease and injury although the known relative instability of the peptide in the body represented a significant challenge.

ZP1846 is a SIP® modified novel GLP-2 peptide analogue with enhanced stability and efficacy. In pre-clinical pharmacological studies, ZP1846 consistently stimulates growth of the small intestinal mucosa and decreases the incidence and severity of Chemotherapy-Induced Diarrhea (CID).

It is anticipated that use of ZP1846 may ameliorate or prevent the destructive effects of chemotherapy on the small intestine and thereby reduce the incidence of diarrhea.  Based on the Company’s pre-clinical data a Phase I clinical evaluation in healthy volunteers was finalized mid 2008 in the U.S.

ZP1846 was outlicensed to Helsinn Healthcare SA in November 2008.
